Best time to visit

The Valley of Flowers is accessible only during the summer months, roughly between June and October. The ideal time to visit is from July to August when the flowers are in full bloom, creating a stunning and colorful landscape.

Trek Difficulty

The Valley of Flowers trek is considered moderate in difficulty. The trail involves walking through rugged terrain, ascending and descending steep slopes, and crossing narrow bridges. It requires a reasonable level of fitness and stamina, but it is generally suitable for beginners as well.


To visit the Valley of Flowers, you need to obtain permits from the Forest Department of Uttarakhand. These permits are issued in Ghangaria, the base camp for the trek. You may also need to acquire an entry permit for the Nanda Devi National Park. Ghangaria serves as the base camp for the Valley of Flowers trek. It offers basic accommodation options like guesthouses and small hotels. During the trek, you may also come across camping sites where you can set up tents.

Trek from Govindghat to Ghangaria

Once you reach Govindghat, you need to start the trek to Ghangaria, which is approximately 13 kilometers away.


Ghangaria is the base camp for the Valley of Flowers trek and also serves as a stopping point for those visiting Hemkund Sahib, a revered Sikh pilgrimage site.
